Labrador Retriever Reigns Supreme Once Again In Baltimore

Nationally, Labrador Retriever Remains America’s Most Popular As Bigger Breeds Shake up the List
NEW YORK, Jan. 30, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Once again, the Labrador Retriever took Baltimore‘s top spot in the American Kennel Club’s (AKC®) 2012 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.
“The people of Baltimore showed love to Golden Retrievers in 2012,” said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson.  “This loyal and loveable breed jumped from fourth to second, pushing the ever-popular German Shepherd Dog to third place.”

Among the Changes in Baltimore‘s Rankings:
  • Yorkshire Terriers lost their popularity in Baltimore this year, moving down from sixth to tenth.
  • The Chihuahua made the biggest leap in popularity this year, joining Baltimore‘s top ten list as the sixth most popular dog.
The AKC also announced its nationwide rankings today.  Proving that bigger really is better, the American Kennel Club announced that the Bulldog has muscled its way into the top 5, becoming the fifth most popular dog in the U.S. according to AKC Registration Statistics, bumping the tiny Yorkshire Terrier into sixth place for the first time since 2003.  The Golden Retriever also pushed its way back to the top, overtaking the Beagle for third place, and Rottweilers continued their climb up the top 10 list by taking ninth place away from the Dachshund, both adding to the bigger breed trend.  Labrador Retriever lovers have again spoken – the playful, family friendly breed remains the number one most popular breed in the U.S. for the 22nd consecutive year, tying with the Poodle for the longest reign in the top spot.  Visit for the complete list.

Some fun with dogs and cats (in a pool and snow)

Some fun with dogs and cats (in a pool and snow) – The Feed Blog – CBS News: (CBS News) We love us some animals here at The Feed. So let’s take a moment to honor a few of our favorite household pets with two videos showing some fun with dogs and cats. Up first is a first-person perspective video of a dog playing in a pool above. Go grab your towel, and check it out.

With the bitter cold in full effect here in New York City right now, this one makes me wish Spring would come sooner. Just saying. The very cute clip of a dog named Chase going after tennis balls in the pool was shot using a GoPro H3 camera and posted by YouTube user BimmerSchwag.
